WHAT’S THE PROCESS FOR GETTING BAPTIZED AT NEWSONG?

If you have decided to get baptized please let Pastor Steve know by phone or email. We baptize at least once a year, usually at Lake Lanier during the summer.

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision to align oneself with Christ and what He lived and died for. It is the believer’s declaration to the world that Christ is that person’s Savior and Lord. Baptism means God is the standard by which he or she intends to live from now on. Baptism is widely recognized in the Christian church as a sacrament, which means a symbol or a seal. Baptism is a symbol that we are believers. Our faith is not a private matter. In Romans 10:9-10, we learn that we are to “confess with our mouth” after “believing in our heart” that Jesus is Lord. Baptism provides the opportunity for believers to make such a formal profession of their faith before the church and the world.

Baptism should be a part of every believer’s experience. Christ commanded baptism and made it a part of His great commission (Matt. 28:19). I’m glad you have made the decision to follow Jesus in Baptism. Please call me if you have any questions, meanwhile, I am providing some general instructions below.

What to Wear:
Women should wear a bathing suit covered with shorts and a Tee shirt. Men should wear a bathing suit and a Tee shirt. The bottom of the lake can sometimes be rocky or muddy. If you prefer you may wear swim shoes or old tennis shoes to protect your feet. If you like, bring a change of clothes, a towel, hairdryer and a plastic bag for your wet clothes. There is a changing area at the park.

What happens at the service?
At the beginning of the baptisms Pastor Steve will briefly explain the meaning of baptism. You will wait at the edge of the lake for your turn to be baptized. Pastor Steve will ask you again if you desire to be baptized and to confess your belief in Jesus Christ. Then he will briefly lower your upper body just under the water, baptizing you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You may then leave the water, dry off, and watch the others. Later you will be mailed a certificate of baptism. We encourage you to invite all your relatives and friends to attend your baptism. If you wish to have a member of NewSong assist the pastor in your baptism, please let our pastor know.
