NewSong Board of Elders

Minutes of February 7, 2004 Meeting

The NewSong Board of Elders met Saturday morning, Febrary 7, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the new church office. The following members were present: Dave Allen, Brian Brown, Michael Smith, Brent Orr, and Tom Frederick and Steve Jackson. Curt Sloyer was not present.

After a devotional by Dave Allen, the Board of Elders went over the following items:

Steve Jackson presented the Pastor’s report. The report summarized the following:

NewSong got the New Year off to a good start in January. During the month we restarted Mid-Week for all ages, held men’s and women’s meetings, and our first-ever Leadership Huddle where all our leaders were invited to be encouraged and trained. We also held our first CLASS 101 for the year and had ten graduates. In terms of Outreach, our youth cooked a meal for The Place and we had several volunteers to go and serve the meal onsite. On a sad note, we also lost Charter Member Cathy Mickle who died unexpectedly while overseas in China as an educational missionary. Our first sermon series of the New Year is called “Ignite the Fire,” and God seems to be doing just that among us, and for that we are grateful.

Our average attendance dropped again to 153 for the year as we had rather low attendance most of the month. This is a phenomenon I can’t quite put my finger on yet and it really surprises me. We continue to have visitors each week.

Our current membership statistics changed only slightly for the month with 54 member families, 93 full members, 75 preparatory members and 55 constituent members for a total of 223. This drop of one reflects the loss of Cathy Mickle.

Our offerings during January were below our new tentative budgeted monthly goal. Total offerings for the month were $15,073.75 (our tentative monthly budget calls for $21,120 a month ($5280 per week, $274,560 annual budget). These lower than usual offerings probably reflect Christmas spending and holiday bill paying. Our expenses were $23,782.14 for the month. We also paid a 10% benevolence ($1,504.03) to The Place. For the month we had an operating “loss” of $8,708.39.

Our Estimates of Giving for 2004 currently stands at $225,092.
