NewSong Board of
Elders
Minutes of May 18,
2008 Meeting
The NewSong Community Church Board of Elders met on Sunday,
May 18, 2008, at the church at 4 p.m. Members present
were Steve Jackson, Jerry Cauley, Vicki Eitel, Linda Blanchard, and Brian
Brown. Absent was Ed Densmore.
Steve opened the meeting with prayer.
Pastor’s Report
There were no questions or discussion. The report was
accepted as presented.
New Business
- The
dance studio space next door is becoming available in October, and the
church has the first choice if interested in the space. It was decided that
due to the cost, and the fact that we are actively seeking our own land,
that we were not interested.
- Steve
mentioned and presented information on an internship from Christina Krauss
and a ministry opportunity from Nathan Green. Discussion followed on
Nathan’s situation, and it was decided that to support this ministry we
would first offer him an opportunity to perform here at NewSong, in an
effort to possibly launch his drama ministry. We will offer prayer and
support.
- Worship
leader – The search is going well with the list still at three after one
has been eliminated. Filling this position could lead to a change in our
music style.
- Children’s
leader – This process is not moving as well, but interviews are ongoing.
It was agreed that we are looking for someone to provide focus, vision and
direction; not just to start new ministries.
- Building/Finance
Team – Doug Davis made an offer on the land located on Hopewell Road and is waiting for a
counter offer. The committee is meeting later this afternoon.
Old Business
- Vicki
gave a report of the two services survey of the congregation. The overall
results show that a majority like having two services. The main question
is what to do with Sunday school and what to do over the summer months.
There was discussion on all issues and possibilities. It was agreed that
we will keep doing what we are doing through the summer, including
continuing to have Sunday school. The feeling is that we are building
momentum and do not want to cut anything back at this time.
- 90 day
review of Justin Woelk – Justin was brought into
the room and told that his probation period is over. He was welcomed into
full-time ministry. All reports have been positive. Justin asked about the
possibility of health insurance. It was agreed that we would take this
under advisement and look at all possibilities. Justin mentioned that he
sees our church growing and having an impact on the community. The elders
laid hands on Justin and prayed for him and Kristyn
and for God’s blessing on them and our youth ministry.
At this time, Steve dismissed himself to attend the Building
and Finance meeting.
Vicki then led the elders in discussion of how to arrange
Sunday school classes for the summer. The following was approved:
9 AM: Young Adults, Children’s, Youth, Brian’s Adult Class
10:30AM: Jerry and Linda’s Adult Class, Junior Worship
This option will provide an adult class each session, as
well as allow Justin to worship with the youth. Vicki will contact the leaders
who are affected by the changes.
The next meeting will be Sunday, June 8 at 4 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Jerry Cauley
