Minutes of July 5, 2003 Meeting

The NewSong Board of Elders met Saturday morning, July 5, 2003 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Brent Orr’s house. Present were Dave Allen, Brian Brown, Brent Orr, Michael Smith, Curt Sloyer. Absent Elders were Tom Frederick and Steve Jackson

After an opening prayer Dave Allen called on the meeting to order.

Due to the absence of Tom Frederick and Steve Jackson, there was no Pastor’s report or financial report.

There was brief discussion Pastor Steve’s recovery from hip surgery. Steve is doing very well and recovering nicely.

There was discussion of the new building. The mezzanine has been lowered and the builder agreed to install commercial grade attic stairs. Quotes have been delivered from Davis Communication for the phone system and with Southern Business Communications for the projector and screen systems.

Next there was discussion around Cathy Mickle’s last Sunday before heading to missionary work in China. The Elders agreed to recognize her during the service on July 13^th and to present her with a signed card and a check for financial support. The amount of $500.00 was suggested.

There was further discussion on the proposal to begin paying the Worship Ministry Leader and the Children’s Ministry Leader. All agreed it was well past time to begin this but there was some concern about the Church’s profit or loss for the past several months. Job descriptions were provided to the Elders and the suggestion was made to share these with the prospective employees to get feedback. Michael agreed to do this and to get financial status for the past few months from Tom.

Lastly there was some discussion of the upcoming Disciple Study Ministry. The Elders agreed to begin advertising this ministry soon.

Final discussion was on the topic of a ministry trip to South America. Jene’ Brown has expressed an interest in leading this ministry. At this point in time the Elders knew of no other volunteers to lead this effort. Further discussion needs to occur on this topic.

Dave Allen then closed the meeting in prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 3:30 PM

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Elders is set for Saturday, August 2^nd at a time and place to be announced.
